Emblematic stone projects: Bateig’s global architectural legacy

Talking about Bateig means talking about history, innovation and international growth in the natural stone industry. With more than 140 years of experience, the company has evolved from its local origins into a global benchmark, taking part in some of the most prestigious architectural developments worldwide. Today, Bateig stands out for delivering emblematic stone projects that combine tradition, advanced technology and design excellence.

The company’s early years are closely linked to historic buildings in Spain that are now part of the country’s architectural heritage, such as the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid and landmark buildings like Telefónica and Correos in Valencia. Over time, Bateig has expanded significantly, reaching a strong international presence, with around 85% of its activity taking place outside Spain.

This evolution has enabled the company to participate in projects across more than 40 countries, collaborating with globally recognized brands such as Google, Armani, Hermès, and leading hotel chains like Westin, Radisson and NH. Below is a selection of some of Bateig’s most representative emblematic stone projects.

Google offices in Paris

GOOGLE OFFICES PARIS 5

One of the most technically demanding projects was the ventilated facade for Google’s offices in Paris. The challenge lies in the wide variety of formats and dimensions required, all of which had to be custom-made.

A total of 4,000 m² of stone was supplied, with a strong focus on sustainability, durability and visual consistency. The materials selected, Bateig Diamante and Beige Verona, provided a perfect balance between performance and contemporary design, reinforcing the project’s architectural identity.

For the Huawei offices in China, Bateig contributed to the development of a modern facade defined by its curved upper lines. This design required a high level of technical precision and adaptability throughout the production process.

In total, 3,000 m² of Bateig Diamante were supplied, showcasing the versatility of the material and Bateig’s ability to deliver customized solutions for complex architectural concepts. This project stands as another example of how emblematic stone projects can push technical and creative boundaries.

The Westin Hotel in Perth represents one of the most comprehensive projects undertaken by Bateig. With a total surface of 3,500 m², the project included both interior and exterior stone applications.

One of the highlights was the development of custom-designed panels created by the project’s architects. Bateig manufactured these elements entirely bespoke, faithfully translating the original design concept into reality while ensuring the highest standards of quality and precision.

This artistic and architectural project, located at the University of Texas in Austin, presented a significant challenge due to the complexity of its curved forms. The successful execution was made possible through the combination of advanced technology, a highly skilled technical team, and close collaboration with the architects.

The project involved 900 m² of Bateig Galaxy, a material distinguished by its natural veining and movement, which adds depth and uniqueness to the space. It is a clear demonstration of how emblematic stone projects can merge art and architecture.

As part of the prestigious Watches & Wonders event in Switzerland, Bateig developed an exclusive project for Hermès under the concept “the finesse of time.”

The challenge was to produce 155 custom pieces of varying sizes within a tight deadline of just three weeks. The selected material, Bateig Azul, helped convey visually the precision and delicacy of a watch mechanism on a large scale. This project highlights Bateig’s capacity to respond quickly and effectively to highly demanding and creative briefs.

A legacy that continues shaping the future

Bateig’s trajectory reflects a company that has successfully combined tradition and innovation to meet the demands of contemporary architecture. Each project is not only a showcase of material quality but also a testament to the company’s commitment to customization, sustainability and technical excellence.
